The Lone Ranger
Mark Marris of Nelson is no cowboy when it comes to fishing, having fished commercially and recreationally for years. His trusty sidekick on this occasion was none other than legendary snapper slayer Daniel 'The Rod' Crimp, who has caught a lot of huge snapper from his 10ft dinghy in the back yard - one weighing an impressive 80lb and looking remakably like a lump of wood. On this particular day in mid October, Tasman Bay was proving to be a fishless desert. Nothing was biting, until this lone 26.5lb snapper came ranging about for some food and fell for a baby salmon from Southern Distributors. Rumours that this fish was taken on a set line are scurrilous, insulting, malicious, offensive, bitchy and completely true. It was a lot of fun and the fish was very tasty!
